I have to rant a little. I’ve heard people say “I’m only buying online for Christmas” and that got me thinking.
I own a brick and mortar store. That means that I get to interact with real humans on a daily basis. Half of our customers are just regular homeowners that need help, instruction, repairs, sharpening, etc. We have knowledge that they need to make taking care of the yard easier. Half of our customers are landscapers that need similar things on a bigger scale. We try to teach them how to be more efficient and do better maintenance on their equipment to save money. There is no way to do this kind of thing online.
When you want info online, you get a huge mishmash of good and bad, true and false. At my shop, we can use our 30 years of experience and the information we glean from the Pros to educate our customers. And when we sell something, we know we are going to see that customer down the road, whether it’s one year or five years. We want to sell you the right tool.
The funny thing is, nobody expects this kind of service. It’s so rare these days to walk into a business and get real help. That’s because the mass merchant has taken over. At my shop, we put our hearts into everything we do. So if you’re interested in a chainsaw, a mower, or some hand tools, stop on by! We’ll give you a little education and maybe even sell you something!
